Step 1: Initial Consultation - as long as it takes!

• At PMI Calgary, our mandate is to provide access to justice to all individuals through alternative dispute resolution services – mediation. Because of this mandate, we firmly believe that everyone has a voice that ought to be heard.  
   

• To allow this to happen, we offer an initial consultation for $150.00 plus GST to allow us to see if there is a way we can assist you in creating a pathway to solve your problem. We do not offer legal advice during our consultations. We will spend as long as it takes with you to answer any questions you have. Because of this, and because we would rather point you in a better direction if appropriate, we do have a consultation fee.
   

• During this consultation, we will meet with you in a confidential manner of your choosing – in person, over the phone, Zoom, or Skype, hear your story, advise you of options, and then figure out a payment plan that works for you.

Step 2: Retainer of fees to book a session

• After we have had our initial consultation with you to determine the scope of our engagement, we will require a retainer of fees for the appropriate session booked. We are cognizant of the fact that our services are often not an expense planned for, and as such we are flexible with financing options on a case-by-case basis. We also do offer preferred pricing for certain businesses, email us for more information about this pricing.

• Generally, for our services, our fees are $1,500.00 per half day (up to four hours) and $3,000.00 per full day (up to eight hours), plus GST. We are flexible in breaking these sessions into mini-sessions, and offer time slots outside of the typical 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours. Our fees are subject to change due to the complexity of a matter, necessary preparation time required, travel time, and other incidentals that may arise for the respective matter. ​​

• We do offer mini-mediation sessions, for a one-time only session of up to ninety minutes. Our fee for this is $500.00 plus GST. These sessions are generally reserved for less complex disputes. If we think your matter would benefit in proceeding in this fashion, we will let you know.

• The fees for the appropriate session booked is not refundable. However, we do understand life happens and rescheduling and/or cancelling may need to occur. In the event a session must be rescheduled and/or cancelled, we reserve the right to charge a $250.00 surcharge. This fee is because of the lost time reserved for the respective session, as well as the lost opportunity to assist others in providing our mandate - to provide access to justice to all individuals through alternative dispute resolution services.

Step 3: Session completed and conclusion

• After the retainer is paid, the session will be completed. If there is any further billing to be completed it will be done after the session is completed. This can occur if the nature of the engagement changes. This will be informed to the party(s) in writing. We want to avoid this at all costs. Instead, we strive to stick to the above.

• The client is responsible for any disbursements we incur on their behalf. Postage, purchasing transcripts / other documents from a courthouse, and certain travel expenses are examples of disbursements. Of course, our goal is to keep the costs as low to you.​​
